Worship leader Sam Evans shares with us the story behind the song "Rain Your Glory Down," released from Planetshakers' latest album, Rain. In this guest post, Sam shares how this song came about and how the design of it draws listeners into a new atmosphere of encountering God.
This song came as a result of God speaking and moving upon a team of people, in different times and places and then eventually bringing them together to make it a reality. As song writers we are always trying to make the prophetic word of the Lord a song to sing, declare and worship God with. What was declared over our conference for the year was the word rain. That’s what we wanted to see, the rain of God’s glory as we worshipped together. We wanted others to encounter that rain too and so as the process of writing and then producing "Rain Your Glory Down" progressed we wanted to include all of these elements around the concept and experience of rain.
We wanted to capture the desire of the worshipper to encounter God but also the sounds and nuances of a literal experience with rain. Throughout the song, as you sing it, it draws you into an understanding of this incredible atmosphere that we are in but it also communicates desire and longing for a deep, personal encounter with God. We are convinced that as people worship along with this song that they will encounter the glory of the Lord and that the supernatural rain from heaven will heal, encourage and lead them closer to Jesus.
