For many, the chance to perform on the hit TV show, American Idol, would be a dream come true. For Lauren Daigle, however, the experience served to open her eyes to a life-impacting truth. Having grown up singing all the time around her house and watching the show with her father, she had the fortune to participate herself. She found, however, that when she'd step up to the microphone to sing, she'd feel strangely unfulfilled.
She finally asked God, "Why? Why is this different? I don't understand. I'm leading worship at church and that's way more fulfilling." God showed her the reason was that if He wasn't involved or the center focal point, it was all going to be empty. She realized worship was the key. Her heart was not connected if it wasn't worship.
Lauren has just released a new EP, How Can It Be. With vocals reminiscent of Adele, the title track, "How Can It Be," is a powerful anthem inspired by John 8, in which the Pharisees dragged an adulterous woman before Jesus and she received from Him, not condemnation, but grace. Lauren responded emotionally to the song, recognizing there are moments in our own lives when we deserve the worst, yet God ransoms us. The chorus proclaims, "You plead my cause, You right my wrongs, You break my chains, You overcome. You gave Your life to give me mine. You say that I am free. How can it be?" Each of her songs are incredibly expressive and full of praise for all that Jesus has done for us.
