Lauren Daigle has just released her first full-length album, How Can It Be, following up on her EP by the same name that debuted last year. Her hope for this new album is that it would help people draw closer to God. “There’s a continuing theme on this record—trust,” Lauren says. “My heart’s cry is that people feel empowered as a body of Christ. It’s just heavy on my heart for all of us to rise up in unity and recognize the goodness of God. My hope is that people are empowered by knowing who they belong to, knowing that they are the son or daughter of God, and in response to that being able to worship fully, worship with complete abandon.”
Along with such favorites such as the title track, "How Can It Be" and "Come Alive (Dry Bones)," How Can It Be includes a number of brand new tracks, many of which were written or co-written by Lauren herself. "First" is based on Matthew 6:33, which says, "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." With a strong beat and passionate vocals, it expresses a desire to put God ahead of everything else in our lives, bringing Him our worship before we bring Him our needs. The chorus resounds with this ideal, declaring, "First, I want to seek You, I want to seek You First. I want to keep You, I want to keep You first. More than anything I want, I want You first." "Loyal" rejoices in Christ's faithful love and the fact that we can have the assurance that He will never leave us. The chorus emphasizes this fact, repeating the simple phrase, "Your love is, Your love is, Your love is loyal." The entire song serves as a powerful reminder of the constancy of His love. Lauren gives a new take on "Here's My Heart," originally performed by Passion and Crowder, displaying a willingness to surrender all to the Lord and an openness to hear God's truths. The song gives testimony to how God has touched our lives, "I am found, I am Yours. I am loved, I'm made pure. I have life, I can breathe. I am healed, I am free," then turns around to declare His goodness, "You are strong, You are sure. You are life, You endure. You are good, always true. You are light breaking through." Lauren shares, "I hope that as these songs hit peoples’ ears, they don’t hear my voice, they don’t hear really good production, so they can say, ‘Whoa Lord, I’m encountering YOU right now. That’s my heart’s cry for How Can It Be. That people are moved and lives get changed because they get to encounter more about God and see His character.”
