With a great longing to see people transformed by an encounter with Jesus Christ, singer-songwriter, Derek Johnson, has devoted his life to writing and leading songs that will impact this generation by introducing them to the truth of God's power and love. He has been a member of the Jesus Culture team since 2009 and has led worship at every Jesus Culture conference since 2011. His first solo project, Real Love, brings people to a place of joy and intimacy in God's presence through praise and worship. "My heart is to write songs that lead people to Jesus," Derek shares. "Whether they have a relationship with Him and know His love or they are still searching for truth, my desire is that anyone who hears these songs will be brought into a deeper understanding of worship and the God of real love."
"I Belong To You," has been featured on the Jesus Culture Emerging Voices and Live From New York albums. Repeatedly declaring, "I belong to You, Forever, I belong to You," it expresses complete devotion and surrender as we open ourselves up to Jesus and invite Him to come in and fill us. The words convey great passion and an upward focus that is wholly on Christ, "You have set my heart on fire. My love, all my desires are only for You. And as Your glory fills this place, Your love we will embrace. It's only for You, for You." "The One We Love" is incredibly engaging, both musically and lyrically, with catchy hooks in the guitar line that drive the song and words that tell of the hope we have in Jesus and all He's done for us. It offers up all our adoration while acknowledging that He deserves so much more than we can give, "One thousand songs and one thousand praises, could not lift high enough the name of Jesus. But we will cry out with all we have now, to glorify the one we love." "Washed Away" paints a picture of God's mercy and love washing over us, enveloping us and cleansing us of our sins, "Your love and Your mighty waters, I'm washed away in it, I'm overcome. Streams of mercy poured out upon me and I just can't get enough." "Power in the Cross," contains a powerful message about the cross and what it means for us today. Rejoicing in God's redemption and great love, it proclaims, "There's power in the Cross where you proved Your love, the only sacrifice strong enough to save us. You rose in victory to let the whole world see love has made a way, hope is never lost, there's power in the Cross." Each song is congregational and singable, exploring God's goodness and love and expressing our devotion to Him.
