Chicago-based couple Jon and Valerie Guerra have released a new full-length Christmas album called It's Almost Christmas. In November 2011, the couple recorded an EP and posted it online in order to raise funds to purchase Christmas gifts for family and friends. Their music was so well received, they continued with the tradition writing new songs each year. It's Almost Christmas is the culmination of their collaboration, featuring a mix of classic arrangements and original compositions perfect for the holidays. Valerie speaks of the album, recorded in their Chicago apartment, "The project took on a life of its own, and it's literally been me, Jon and a couple of close friends - no session players or producers - which adds to the sentimental, homespun feeling." Jon adds, "We're not trying to make new Christmas music… we're trying to make something that makes Christmas music feel new."
"Beginning To Feel Like Christmas" is one of Jon and Valerie's original songs. It's fun and whimsical, filled with solid harmonies and humorous lyrics that paint a picture of the approaching holiday season. A soft acoustic version of "The Little Drummer Boy" is another great offering from this new project. Jon and Valerie put their own unique spin on the Christmas favorite, blanketing it with an overriding sense of peace. "Lord Remind Me" is a beautiful ballad that reminds worshippers of the light that came to the world through the birth of Jesus. It worships, "Glory in the highest, glory in the lowest, Emmanuel" as it communicates the true message of Christmas and acknowledges the hope that we have in Him in the midst of the sorrows all around us.
