Songs of the People is the brand new release from Prestonwood Worship, the music ministry of Prestonwood Baptist Church which is one of the largest Southern Baptist Congregations in the world with two locations in the Dallas area. This new album introduces 13 new songs from Prestonwood's worship team led by Dove Award winning songwriter and Lead Worship Pastor Michael Neale and features the church's renowned mass choir along with special guests Paul Baloche and Michael W. Smith. "Our people have taken these songs in and are lifting them loudly to the Savior every week," comments Neale. "With more than 500 worshipers on stage, we really wanted to capture the power of a unified worshiping army, shattering the darkness with praise. Having our good friends Michael W. Smith and Paul Baloche join us in writing and leading for this project was a true gift. This project has had God’s hand on it from the beginning. We couldn’t have done this. Our prayer is that the Songs of the People project will be a resource for worshipers around the world to bring their offering to the King."
Drawing its inspiration from Psalm 91, "You Cover Me" declares the constant presence and faithfulness of God. With great tenderness, it shows just how much we depend on Him as it praises Him for being our refuge and strength, "You cover me, You cover me. I'm resting in Your shadow, You're my strength and bravery. You cover me, You cover me. I'm safe inside Your presence, You hold back the enemy, You cover me. "Grace So Marvelous" is a hymn-like anthem that captures a true sense of awe and wonder at the incredible grace of God, "Your grace so marvelous! All sufficient and free is more, more than enough to redeem and rescue me." The song recognizes the magnitude of Jesus' sacrifice and prays that our praise and thankfulness for all He has done may never cease.
The album's title track, "Songs of the People," opens with a fervent expression of praise, "Hallelu, hallelujah" and unites the entire world in glorifying God and proclaiming His greatness, praising "A mighty fortress, the solid rock. Holy holy, how great thou art. Blessed redeemer, be glorified. Hallelujah, the songs of the people will rise. The songs of the people will rise." This song, co-written by Michael Neale and Paul Baloche, encourages worshippers to lift their voices to God with its upbeat and congregational sound.
