Recording a Christmas album was a new experience for Jesus Culture worship leader, Kim Walker-Smith, having grown used to recording at live worship venues. “The reason I always record live is because we’re trying to capture a moment in worship, but with this…it’s a little bit different,” she explains. “We’re making something fun and creative, but an album that still carries my heart in worship.” In her brand new release, When Christmas Comes, Kim presents classic, well-loved carols in her own way, with a great blend of cinematic orchestral elements and soulful and honest vocals.
"Silent Night" begins softly, capturing the peace and wonder of Jesus's birth. The song moves forward, building in passion and intensity to the glorious proclamation that Christ, our Savior is born. 'The First Noel" combines ethereal synths with rich strings and piano, giving great atmosphere to the classic carol. "Away in a Manger" is light and lilting, offering sweet devotion to the newborn king. Each song maintains an air of worship, glorifying Jesus and celebrating His birth.
Kim states, “I am someone who loves Jesus and loves to adore and worship Jesus. So, no matter what I do, that just comes out of me naturally. It comes out in these songs celebrating the whole reason for Christmas—it’s Jesus, that He came to change our lives and set us free. The message of the gospel is the whole theme of Christmas and why we celebrate and what makes it so wonderful.”
